Untold Stories Post 24: The Language Barrier

Today’s story is not exactly mine, but it happened just in front of my eyes, to someone very close to me.

In Primary Classes I had very less friends. Ravi Kiran was one of the species I could get along with. Academically not very strong, but he had the heart of Gold. I most of the time wanted to know Y he couldn’t excel academically to which one day his reply was, “I like to learn History, Mathematics and Science, but out of six subjects I have, I am forced to learn HINDI as I am not very good at it in writing skills, This made me focus more on HINDI and I have less time to learn the subjects That I am interested in. As I have less time to learn those subjects, I am getting weaker and weaker in other subjects too. I want to learn other subjects but I really have no time for that as everyone is Pin Pointing me that I am not good at learning HINDI.”
His additional words were, ” I belong to RAJPUT Family and this adds up to the bubble of pressure. I was raised my whole childhood here in Andhra Pradesh (an ex state of India which is now subdivided into Telengana, Rayala Seema and Andhra) and only the languages I learnt from childhood is Telugu. Now Not having knowledge of HINDI to a Rajput family is an insulting factor to me as well as my parents. Thus I have to learn HINDI and then I have to learn other subjects too.”

All the justification he gave to me seem logical but I did not trust even a single of what he said to me as I believed that its only his imagination that people are pin pointing him to learn HINDI, as its a national language and he is able to speak HINDI well so no one should pestered to Learn a National language, I guessed. Until one strange day

Mid day classes were going on where Hindi subjects was taught after the lunch break. Fortunately or unfortunately Ravi’s Father was called to school for his poor performance in Mathematics to meet the faculty. Exactly on the time when Ravi’s father was near the door to enter the class room, MRS. ARORA Madam our HINDI teacher asked Ravi to Read some chapter of text book, when he stumbled upon some words and she started scolding him in front of the class and in fact, in front of his father too which she was unaware initially, when his father entered the class and he introduced himself as he is Ravi’s Father, She continued her words about Ravi to him, “What kind of student don’t know HINDI when it is a National Language? Your son is so poor in HINDI that he failed all the unit exams which were conducted last month. I advice that he should not be allowed to come to this school, let him study in some other medium if he cannot manage here”

When this dialogues were going on in front of class, both of father’s and son’s head were down but a Rajput has already made a decision in his mind. And how so unrealistic the situation may be, but just two months before the final exam session, the only day of this conversation was the last day of my best friend in the school we studied together. His father took him out of the school very next day and admitted to some other institute which gave him penalty of losing one more year of his education, according to Education system of India.

As a child, I hated Mrs. Arora madam, as for me she did not play the role of a TEACHER properly and blamed the student for his failure. For me his going out of school was not a failure of one subject or two. But it was a failure of a PARENTS trust on his Child, It was failure of Parents Trust on Education system. Where even If it was my child being insulted in front of class just because he/she is not able to get satisfactory standard marks, were actually a teacher fails to teach that subject to my kid, I would probably take my kid out of the institution, as its not that my kid is facing the failure, it is that The INSTITUTION should learn standard in teaching and handling children as their minds are shapable to any direction if not guided properly.

For me Language are just mode of communication, Even today I try to learn more and more, not only various languages of India but also international Languages only with a spirit that it will make ‘me’ more accommodatable to various ‘communities of the world’. The barriers of communication are removed when we learn more languages and we are exposed to vast cultural diversity and people of various nation. Stories like above and others are just stores for us, but to the person who lived this story will definitely developed a harsh thinking towards various stages of learning, student life and language learning.

Some stories amuses you, some stories irritates you but some stories make you think, and I think this story is one of them which has to reach out to audience and let everyone at least give a thought: ARE WE MOVING IN RIGHT DIRECTION OF EDUCATION ?????

Untold Story Post 23: The 60% Teacher

In Indian schools, colleges and various educational Institutions, a Percentage Grade system is followed, Being a Kendriya Vidyalaya student, I faced both the % gradation system and Alphabetic Gradation system,
As an International university student I also faced the Pointer system of Gradation,
In any educational system the highest goal of any student is to achieve full on full marks academically. As it is believed that these so Called NUMBERS or PERCENTAGE are going to decide the future of the student who will become successful in his ‘WHOLE’ LIFE or NOT.

Personally I have seen both peaks of the Percentage system, My annual report card sometimes hold 98% result and during some years I also managed to mere Pass or sometime fail some unit and unable to clear the semester goal.

Sometimes I question myself That IS THAT I won the 98% or My Educational Teacher won the marks. DID I failed the Exam or MY TEACHER failed to interest me in the subject that I didn’t even managed to Pass his/her unit.

So Finally I decided to question HOW MUCH MARKS THE PROFESSOR GOT AS HE/SHE is EXPECTING US TO SCORE 90% and ABOVE MARKS?
and Even if he or she did score these percentage, is that necessary that I will score an GOOD PERCENTAGE and BE SUCCESSFUL in LIFE, or end my life exactly like my PROFESSOR teaching some bunch of students and continue the cycle.

Internally even after scoring high I felt Failure as I had very less friends. and When i had the quotient of friends then I had less marks and again i my teachers felt i am a Failure.

I lost my complete trust on EDUCATION SYSTEM till I met two different Professor one being Atul Bhagat teaching me subject that I had no interest on and Second Mr. ANAND RAJ the founder of HelpBIOTECH Academy teaching me subject that I could never master. Both indirectly taught me the concept of 60% Teacher.

A 60% Teacher is just an average Teacher or Student of Life who Inspires the class to score the 90% result but also Personally reaches the Academically weak or slow learners to build faith in THEMSELVES that these marks will not decide your future, and still build faith that TRY AGAIN “YOU WILL GET IT”

A 60% Teacher does not focus on Building a 98% scorers academy but in fact in real terms explains the students how to move forward in life when you face the failure in real situations outside academic walls and have the ability to stand up again, Face the world again, and say yourself in future

BRING IT ON
I am READY TO FACE IT
I am WILLING TO WIN…..!!!!!

Have you met a 60% teacher in your life????

Untold Stories Post 22: Common Enemy

In early 2009, My and My partner’s relationship was always on a rough patch. Me and Anupam Jyoti were use to quarrel on small small topic throughout the day. This is the story of that one day when thighs were not in our hand but we reacted instantaneously.
I was angry on my love that she is not listening to me properly and most of the time she herself is going on an unsafe zone of people and complain me of not being protective. On the other end she was shouting back that I am showing over impulsive response and she shouted back for her free days. The argument started with this but as the quarrel goes all the topics from past which were irrelevant to this topic came along. We were literally fighting on Streets Near Hanuman/Sai Temple Near Girls Hostel Hingna Road, NAGPUR-Orange City. The Verbal argument was so intense that it came a point where the next decision would definitely have been to end the relationship then and there and move on along our life path separately. We were fighting as we were enemies of each other.
Unexpectedly, A cop in his motor bike came along from the side door of the temple and came in front of us. Asked us the usual questions and Collected my drivers licence for a Bribe as according to him we Love Birds are not allowed to sit in a temple and some so called ‘respected citizens’ of society complaint against us. That moment or that impulse was enough for us to stop fighting and build a common enemy. Rather than fighting with each other, we bursted our anger at the cop. At that very point we completely forgot we were fighting from long and we both acted together against Cop.
That was the common Enemy we chooz that night, and we won the fight by defeating the enemy and we came more closer. (Actually we couldn’t defend him but we managed the situation by INDIAN way)

If you look the overall situation, this is not only the story of just me and my life partner, its the story of every Human being and his/her attitude in society.
We in India usually fights with each other based on States, Maharashtra vs Bihar, Andhra vs Telengana, Tamil Nadu vs Uttar Pradesh, Punjab vs whole south India, and so on..
But when the time comes that we Indians are in war with Pakistan, we forget all our small battles and join hand together, decide our Common Enemy and Fight against Pakistan in the years 1947,1965,1971 and 1999 (I was in this planet in the last recent fight 🙂 ).

Still if you think Globally, Even Dose WAR with Pakistan Does Not satisfy us, We have joined Group of Countries and in Past Even and Went on Two World Wars in year 1914 and 1939. (India was under Britisher rule and had joined war unwillingly I guess)

I am not a preacher who want everyone to stop fighting, its natural human tendency to fight. And truly speaking, I SUPPORT ALL WARS, its a tendency to define either superiority or limits of every organism in the planet. In fact, I want you all to participate in all kind of arguments, fights and Wars. But my readers, I just want you all to choose your common enemies properly

I am not saying I am completely right, but in my view as Human being Our Common Enemy are
Poverty,
Hunger,
Inequality,
Unemployment
Social Injustice
Lack of Management of Resources…. etc etc

Just Choose your enemy and Begin the Battle !!!
I will be on other end to Celebrate our Victory Together
All the Best !!!!!!

Untold Stories Post 21: The Death of SuperStar

On 18 July 2012, we lost a very known Bollywood actor and a great soul, “Rajesh Khanna”
My father was very sad for the incident,
I remember He called me after very long time, as Me and My father rarely use to talk in my engineering days. He gave me a telephonic call when I was in Hyderabad for an Short term course, as his first sentence were, Rajaesh Khanna is no more.
Even my teacher Dr. Ananad Raj form Help Biotech Academy was also sad that Rajesh Khanna Died.
I had to look at Wikipedia that time and search who is Rajesh Khanna, I knew he was some actor but i wasn’t sure of, I was even not sure that he is actually talking about the Actor Rajesh Khanna or there is someone in our family died.
In fact it did.

Family is not the blood bound relationship that we have to follow even if we don’t like them. FAMILY ARE THE PEOPLE WHO ACCEPT YOU FOR WHO YOU ARE AND YOU ACCEPT THEM BACK EVEN BEING AWARE OF THEIR FLAWS AND DEEDS.

Rajesh Khanna accepted people as part of his life, his family was much bigger, and even crossed the borders India long time before I even think of reaching somewhere abroad. In turn people like My Dad, My Proffessor and may 80’s and 90’s generation youth accepted him as part of their family.
Unfortunately No one told me and even I dint see it, as “Bonds don’t require name to form.”

I could never understand the pain or the vacuum feeling unless the time 30th November 2013. We lost Paul Walker, another great soul in the mid way shooting of Fast and Furious 7.
I got a thought of Though on screen we 21st generation youth were so connected with him that even a thought of not seeing him again even on screen was a sad feeling one. Bonds Don’t require name to form. And this Bond or a relation between and actor and a spectator was a bond which is form already. We are connected with an Imaginary Thread which when cut, feels us incomplete in a very minute dose of pain.

Rest In Peace you both. We Miss you !!!!
I would like to quote both the dialog quoted for these two actors:

Rajesh Khanna : “Babumoshai, zindagi aur maut uparwale ke haath hai jahanpanah. Usse na toh aap badal sakte hain na main. Hum sab toh rangmanch ki kathputhliyan hain jinki dor uparwale ki ungliyon main bandhi hain. Kab, kaun, kaise uthega yeh koi nahi bata sakta hai. Ha, ha, ha.”

Translation: Life and death are in hands of God, we are just puppets in his hands on the stage called world. We cannot change it. When which string will be lifted up, No one had any clue 🙂 ha ha

Paul Walker: “If one day Speed Kills me Don’t Cry, because I was Smiling”

No Matter where you are, whether a quarter mile away or half way across the world, You will always be with me…………

Untold Stories Post 20: The Word FUCK

India is a country very famous for Graffiti, In all public places we find non public posters all over. Boys even express their love in Graffiti in Boys toilet writing “I love you Simran” when I always use to wonder when will Simran have time to peep into boys toilet and check the status that a guy actually loved her.

In Railway stand/toilets Youth are so interested to teach Kamasutra to other people that they draw all 26 positions of having sex just to guide other travelers how it has to be done. Today I can at least try to understand all the images and the code languages, but there was a time when I was first exposed to these stuff where I had no clue what it means

I was in Grade VI and started living at Type III new Residential Rental House at Ordnance Factory Medak, Yeddumaliaram, AP 502205 INDIA. I have seen this for the first time that A BIG picture of Naked girl was drawn in Type V bus stand and near her Vaginal opening there was a big Arrow pointing towards and Words written “FUCK ME”

As a boy I was excited to watch the picture but as a Kendirya Vidyalay Science Student, I was more keen to know what the word “FUCK” means
As I was aware my parents have very less command over English I decided to ask my English Teacher, Muhhamad Ali Sir.
To my question he smiled and replied, “Have you checked the English Dictionary for the meaning?
Yes I replied it says the word Fuck is a VERB which means “having act of sexual intercourse”
Then what is your question asked Ali sir,
I asked him again, I am not aware of the word Sexual Intercourse either ! This dictionary has no use to me, Thus I wanted to know the meaning form you.
That time no one laughed on me as In my town, none of the VIth grade knew about the meaning of FUCK.
Muhammad Ali sir replied, Probably you must ask your biology teacher, she can teach you better.
I followed sir instructions and asked my Biology Teacher,
She replied in anger, “When I am teaching about Parts of a Plant you are keen to know form where the fruit has come.”
The word FUCK is not in syllabus, have you seen it anywhere in your Science Class VI text book?. she asked.
I bowed my head down and came back as the question was unanswered.
That Time during the whole conversation, I clearly remember, no one laughed at me as the whole town class VI grade students did not know the meaning of FUCK or sexual intercourse either.

That was my exposure to the word fuck
Students of 21st century are aware of the word long before they are in Grade VI. Its nice that they are finally receiving the knowledge about sexual education long before people start to exploit them.
They are not deprived of education as I was only exposed to one Bus Stand as the present Generation kids carry their bus stand in their pocket in form of Mobile Phones.
I even don’t say that class 6th is the right age to gain sexual knowledge, But I don’t even justify the reply which was given to me by my teachers.

In this fast growing era where education system is carried by mobile phones, youtube and other media, I request all Teachers in my contact at lest to please understand the demand of current generation knowledge, Please dont get angry with students questions and feel free to at least give a try to understand what a child have in his mind and try to explain with the possible positive knowledge which will make a stable society in which young minds can live in harmony, Respecting opposite sex rather than trying to exploit them

Untold Stories Post 19: The Heroes Among Us

The memories of this story are little faded thus cannot comment on the accuracy of the story but its is how I remember form my point of view…

I was in Standard Vth of my schooling and My Best friend at time Avinash Chaudhari was with class II or IIIrd I guess. Though we had an age difference but because of our thought similarity and area compatibility, we made a great team. If someone in the Ordnance Factory Ground Bullied any one of us, we use to hit back together.

The houses our area had Manual Lock system. i.e they had to bold in form inside to lock the door or form outside an external Pad lock should be installed every time we are going away form our home.
This was a strange incident that Avinash’s Mother came to our House to talk with my mother about some issues, (the afternoon girl talk ha ha)
She might have forgot the Pressure Cooker On gas stove kept on, or Might have done it on purpose as the Cooker takes about more than 20 minutes to cook. Till that time Multi-Tasker Home Maker woman can do various stuff in the 20 minutes time (including having a small chat with their neighbor. The food has to done before 12pm as at around 1pm our respective father will have Lunch in Factory and our mother’s home cooked food is being delivered to them by a transporter man.
Avinash’s little brother Sonu has just learn how to walk, he was not able to speak sentence but was able to speak little words. Just with a Playful attitude he use to walk and touch every thing around his house as the world was new to his baby hands. He accidentally came towards the house main door and as kids like to play with things, he bolted himself inside the house, unaware of how to open himself back.
The Gravity of situation is A mother is locked outside the house, Her kid is inside, Pressure Cooker is on, that is on the Gas Stove which is filled by LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) which have highest Probably of Blasting and Burning the whole house itself.

As the Pressure Cooker whistle more and more, an helpless mother use to cry outside and he baby use to cry from inside of not being aware how to open the door. The house started filling up with steam/smoke.
We tried different ways to open the door but we failed.
Our fathers were not available at that period of time. They were working in the factory so it made us the sole owner and of the situation maintenance.

I tried to climb up the house form back and enter the house form behind. But I discovered My stupid head structure is so Big that it dose not fit the grill and I cannot cross the grill to enter the house. Plus I was very fat that time.

Then came the chance of Avinash Himself. He was little but very flexible guy and he climbed the ladder, Cross through the grill and went inside the house. He opened the House from inside and saw his brother on floor semi unconscious as he cried for a long time.
From then the adults took over and Situation got under control.

The lesson I learned that day was how so small a person is build, he/she is build with a purpose. And time and situations realizes us the importance of the person
Time Faded the story, but let me Remind you
AVINASH UTTAM CHAUDHARY son of Uttam Choudhari was the HERO among us who save the life of his young brother.
